Download the Temp File Deleter
The Temp File Deleter is a FREE windows program that does the following:
- Delete temp files in Documents and Settings (XP) and User folders (Vista)
- Deletes temp files in Program Files?
- Deletes the files in the Windows temp folder?
- Deletes EXD files left over from a previous Office install, service pack (SPx) or upgrade
Prior to deleting, the Temp File Deleter confirms the request. This allows you to delete the files, skip the files, or stop the process.
EXD files are temporary ActiveX files used by Office installs and service packs (SPx). For some reason they are not deleted. If doing a repair of Office, these files should be deleted to help insure that the repair uses the correct files.
The best way to do a repair of Office is to:
- Reboot your PC
- Run the Temp File Deleter and delete the temp files and EXD files
- Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and select Microsoft Office. Select the Change option and do the Repair option. Do not do the re-install option. It does not typically solve problems.
The best way to re-install Office is to:
- Reboot your PC
- Run the Temp File Deleter and delete the temp files and EXD files
- Go to Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and select Microsoft Office. Un-install Office
- Reboot your PC again
- Re-install Office
